“The most dangerous secrets are the ones we pretend do not exist. That does not stop them from existing — so much so that they became the cornerstones of my book,” said David Dorosz about his debut novel We All Leave, which will be published on 10 March and launched on 25 March at Három Holló.
Dávid Dorosz says that the book’s main setting, Tihany, is a place that is beautiful on the one hand, but on the other also captures the duality of Hungary particularly well. The surface shines, but underneath there is decay and immense tension. In part, he also wrote the book about himself: “about the generation in their thirties and forties — our ambitions, our fears and our betrayals. This novel is for anyone who has ever asked, ‘How on earth did we end up here?’” the author said ahead of the book launch.
This is the story of a generation that has far more choices than before — and yet finds it increasingly difficult to make decisions.
A group of friends. A luxury villa above the Balaton. One weekend that changes everything.
In Ádám’s villa, everything is in place for a perfect weekend: an old university group gathers to celebrate Ági’s fortieth birthday, as she returns from London. But nothing is the same as it once was. Lies and the shadows of the past quickly rise to the surface.
By Sunday morning, the innocent celebration turns into tragedy: a body lies on the shore. Ferenc, the detective battling his own traumas, has only a few hours to uncover the truth before the case is covered up. Who is willing to do anything to keep their secrets hidden?
WE ALL have changed. Through power. Through money. Through fear.
WE ALL are playing roles. Playing games. Against each other and for each other.
WE ALL are lying. To the world. To their friends. To themselves.
WE ALL are afraid. Of what others know. Of what else might come to light.
WE ALL are running. From their decisions. From their actions. From themselves.
WE ALL LEAVE.
